The AMC series follows a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by the undead.

Fans have fallen in love with its central characters, including Daryl (), Maggie (), Michonne (), and Rick Grimes ().

It’s been an epic journey to reach this point with our group of survivors experiencing heartbreak, loss, and sometimes, hope to survive in a world full of the undead.

But while it may be sad the series is leaving the air with the , there are still plenty of shows out there for you to get your undead fix.

Netflix

iZombie

We often think of zombies as stumbling ghouls or rabid monsters, but this Netflix series challenges both of those tropes.

In , viewers follow the adventures of doctor-turned-zombie Olivia ‘Liv’ Moore (Rose McIver), a Seattle Police medical examiner who helps solve murders after eating the victims’ brains and temporarily absorbing their memories and personalities.

Her secret is guessed by her boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, who helps her along her journey as the number of zombies in Seattle increases and a private marshall company wreaks havoc.

All Of Us Are Dead

Where would you want to be when begins? After watching this show, probably not a school.

is a South Korean series that sees a group of students attempt to escape their high school as a zombie outbreak begins.

It is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name by Joo Dong-Geun and following the release of the wildly successful first series this year.

Z Nation

Syfy series proved an instant hit, spawning five series before it was cancelled in 2018.

The show begins three years into a zombie apocalypse as a group attempts to transfer Murphy (Keith Allan), an inmate at Portsmouth Naval Prison in Maine, to the last known functioning Centre for Disease Control research lab in California.

Murphy was the only survivor of a vaccine test prompting his fellow inmates to believe he may be the key to the continuation of the human race and the end to the zombie pandemic.

Black Summer

Following , spin-off series was released.

follows Rose (Jaime King) who is separated from her daughter, Anna (Zoe Marlett) during the zombie apocalypse.

She embarks on a harrowing journey to find her, joining forces with a small group of refugees in North America in order to survive.

Daybreak

If Mad Max met The Walking Dead – the result would be .

The post-apocalyptic teen drama follows the story of 17-year-old Canadian high school outcast Josh Wheeler (Colin Ford), who is searching for his missing British girlfriend Samaira Dean (Sophie Simnett) in Glendale, California, as zombies ravage the world.

He is joined by a ragtag group of survivors – including his former bully Wesley Fists (Austin Crute), and 10-year-old pyromaniac Angelica Green (Alyvia Alyn Lind) – as they try to survive among the hordes of Mad Max-style gangs.

Kingdom

Period dramas have seen a massive rise in popularity, and this period horror drama is a cut above the rest.

Set in 16th century South Korea and three years after the end of the Imjin War, the story follows Lee Chang, the Crown Prince of Joseon, who attempts to investigate the mysterious illness recently afflicting the King.

He soon finds himself in the middle of a deadly epidemic that is ravaging the kingdom, while his political opponents also try to take advantage of the situation by seizing the throne.

Dead Set

With the in the pipeline, we can only hope for the return of .

Set in a fictionalised Big Brother series, the show chronicles a zombie outbreak that strands the housemates and production staff inside the Big Brother House.

The five-episode series, created by Charlie Brooker, even saw cameos from host Davina McCall as well as former contestants such as Helen Adams, Paul “Bubble” Ferguson, Eugene Sully, Kinga Karolczak, Makosi Musambasi, Saskia Howard-Clarke, Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, Imogen Thomas, Brian Belo, and Ziggy Lichman.

The Last Ship

In Prime Video series The Last Ship, the crew of a lone naval destroyer must find a way to save the human race from the brink of extinction.

Released in 2014, the American drama is loosely based on the 1988 novel of the same name by William Brinkley.

Death Valley

In MTV series Death Valley, vampires, werewolves, and zombies roam the earth – more specifically, the Death Valley region of California after a mysterious event.

Now, it’s up to the Undead Task Force to keep these supernatural creatures under control, and we as viewers get to find out just how they do that in this Cops-esque mockumentary.

While you can’t stream Death Valley for free on Prime Video, you can buy or rent the episodes, and stream the first series on Roku.

Fear The Walking Dead

A number of spin-off shows based on The Walking Dead are in the pipeline, and has been confirmed for an eighth series.

While set in the same universe as The Walking Dead, this series follows a separate set of survivors in California.

Fans of the original series will recognise a few familiar faces, however, with appearances from Morgan (Lennie James), Dwight (Austin Amelio), and Sherry (Christine Evangelista).

The Walking Dead: World Beyond

Another Walking Dead spin-off series available on Prime Video is .

The is set in Nebraska 10 years after the zombie apocalypse we see ravage the world in The Walking Dead.

It features four teenage protagonists – Iris Bennett (Aliyah Royale), Hope Bennett (Alexa Mansour), Silas Plaskett (Hal Cumpston), and Elton Ortiz (Nicolas Cantu) – focusing on ‘the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it’, according to the show’s creators.

Disney Plus

The Strain

Horror icon Guillermo Del Toro brings plenty of wonder and fear to The Strain, available on Disney Plus.

The series, based on the novel trilogy of the same name, centers around Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the CDC’s New York-based Canary Project, as he investigates an airplane landing wherein everyone aboard is dead.

He soon learns that a virus took hold of the passenfers with similarities to an ancient strain of vampirism, and it is up to him and his team to save humanity as we know it.

The Passage

While not strictly about zombies, The Passage does see a deadly infection wreak havoc.

Based on the novels by Justin Cronin, the show spans years in the life of Amy Bellafonte, a young girl who makes it her mission to protect humankind against a virus that turns its victims into bloodthirsty vampires.

Unfortunately the show was cancelled after just one series, but that is available to stream now on Disney Plus.

Sky TV/NOW

Day Of The Dead

Based on the classic 1985 film of the same now, Sky offering Day Of The Dead is available to stream now via Sky TV and NOW.

The story takes place in a small town when the dead begin to rise and six survivors must try and survive the first 24 hours of the apocalypse.

The series features plenty of odes to George A Romero as well as other iconic zombie films throughout its 10-peisode run.

Curfew

In British dystopian drama Curfew, the world is not completely destoryed by the outbreak of an unstoppable virus.

To protect the population from the virus spreading, a totalitarian government impose a curfew in which anyone caught out between 7pm to 7am will be put into quarantine, if not worse.

However, a few select groups of survivors are offered the opportunity to compete in an illegal 1,000-kilometre street race where the finish line ends in the ultimate prize – Sanctuary.
