Actress Elizabeth Hoffman, who played the matriarch Beatrice Reed Ventner in the TV series Sisters, has .
Born in Corvallis, Oregon in 1926, Hoffman’s career spanned more than four decades, appearing in shows including Little House on the Prairie and L.A. Law and The Winds of War, the last of which saw her portray Eleanor Roosevelt.
She also starred opposite Barbra Streisand in the 1987 film Nuts and ventured into sci-fi, playing Premier Bhavani in : Next Generation and Catherine Langford in Stargate SG-1.
In Sisters, Hoffman played the role of the mother of the sisters Beatrice, who was a recovering alcoholic.
At the start of the series, which ran from 1991 to 1996, Beatrice had recently been widowed. The character died in the final episode of the drama.
The news of Hoffman’s death was confirmed to by her son, Chris, who revealed that his mother died on August 21 of natural causes at her home in Malibu.
