Alec Baldwin compares Oscars 2022 to ‘Jerry Springer Show’ and supports Chris Rock after Will Smith slap

has compared the Oscars to the ‘Jerry Springer Show’ after slapped during the glittering ceremony on Sunday night.

During the live telecast, former SNL star Chris made a joke about Will’s wife, , who suffers from alopecia, which prompted Will to storm the stage and hit the comedian.

While on the altercation, responding to the on-air controversy on Monday, 63-year-old actor Alec showed his support for 57-year-old Chris.

In a tweet, the star – who is reportedly after he discharged a gun while working on the movie Rust, accidentally killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, and injuring director Joel Souza, 48, in October last year – said: ‘I’m not reading much about how, or even if, the producers attended to Chris.

‘But I love you, Chris Rock.’

Alec added, ‘I’m sorry the Oscars turned into The Jerry Springer Show’, comparing the ceremony to the American Nineties tabloid talk show hosted by 78-year-old television personality .

The controversial moment on Sunday happened after Chris quipped on stage, ‘Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see you.’

After he made the joke, Jada, who first , could be seen rolling her eyes in the audience before Will walked onto the stage, , and returned to his seat where he yelled: ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth’.

Alopecia is an autoimmune condition that causes the sufferer’s hair to fall out. It is often associated with stress and anxiety. There is no cure, but treatments are available to slow down the loss of hair.

On Monday, the Fresh Prince of Bell Air actor, 51, in which he said that ‘violence in all its forms is poisonous’.

He added: ‘My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

‘I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.  

‘I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.’

He concluded: ‘I am a work in progress.’

The Academy has since announced it has  into the incident, while stating it ‘condemns the actions of Mr Smith’.

According to , sources claimed Chris had no idea Jada had alopecia and insisted he ‘doesn’t have a mean bone in his body’.
