Alfonso Ribeiro revealed that his daughter underwent emergency surgery over the weekend, after a worrying fall.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor, 51, explained that Ava – who he shares with wife Angela Unkrich – was taken in for treatment the day before her fourth birthday.
During an appearance on Live with Kelly And Mark this week, he opened up about the tough time for the family.
‘Unfortunately, my daughter got injured and had to have emergency surgery,’ he said. ‘So, it was a very stressful weekend. She fell and had basically road rash on her face and arm, and so they had to scalpel off all the skin.’
‘It’s going to be a long process,’ he shared of her recovery.
Alfonso also reflected on a warning that Angela had given before the accident, which ultimately ‘wasn’t listened to’.
He recalled: ‘The hard part of it is that my wife really listens to her intuitions and she actually, on Thursday, bought everyone into the kitchen and told everyone, “I have a feeling my daughter is going to the ER this week. Do not let her do anything that she can get hurt doing”.
‘That obviously wasn’t listened to. And so, my nanny was running back into the house to get pads and stuff and [Ava] went on a little sit-down scooter anyway.’
As well as Ava, Alfonso and Angela share sons Alfonso ‘AJ’ Lincoln and Anders Reyn, while the Dancing With The Stars host is also dad to Sienna from a previous relationship.
The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! icon shared a look at his youngest child’s injuries on Instagram last week, showing painful scarring on her arm and face.
‘Not the kind of day you want the day before turning 4,’ he penned at the time. ‘Just want to give a heartfelt thank you to @kareskinmd for the emergency service and procedure to help lessen the likelihood of scaring.
‘So proud of how brave my baby girl was during the surgery.’
In a subsequent post, Alfonso proudly wished Ava a happy birthday, praising her for making the most of the celebrations despite her injuries.
‘Happy Birthday to my sweet Ava Sue. As some of you know Ava had a very difficult week,’ he added. ‘I’m so proud of how well she handled everything. She’s so brave strong and creative. I love everything about my little girl.
‘On a side note I’m forever grateful to @mrsangelaribeiro1 for being so amazing during this time.
‘Long nights with a little girl in pain and having to apply medication every few hours. My two hero’ [sic].’
