Charlotte York Goldenblatt found herself battling a snowstorm to purchase condoms so that her daughter Lily could lose her virginity safely on but not everyone agreed with the scene.

The sex-positive parent, played by 58, has come a long way since the prequel series , where she was regarded as the most traditional in the friendship.

She would even chastise her friends – Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) – for being too open about their bedroom predicaments. Now she’s battling a New York weather warning to secure condoms and deliver them to Lily’s boyfriend’s house, as the young couple both assumed the other person would sort.

Creator Michael Patrick King recalled that it became a ‘jury room’ as they decided what made it into the second series, and they eventually decided to show her growth.

‘We’ve been through this in the writing room and there’s a split, mothers who would get condoms and mothers who wouldn’t,’ Micheal explained.

‘The idea [is] exploring who Charlotte is now with so many changes and put as many obstacles in front of her as we always have.

‘But a bomb cyclone and condoms for her daughter losing her virginity? That’s a high bar for any mother.’

He added to that the character ‘would not be fun if she hadn’t grown’.

Charlotte, who is also raising non-binary child Rox with her husband Harry, certainly showed her development when she sat Lily down to discuss prioritising her own pleasure.

The youngster told her mum: ‘You’ve gone from sex-positive to sex-annoying!’ Well, you can’t win them all.

Lily informed her mum that she’d use the pull-out method if she didn’t supply the goods. The demanding teenager definitely knew how to get her mum, who doesn’t want to be a nan just yet, frantically searching for contraception.

She visits multiple stores that are closed due to the extreme weather and even calls Carrie for assistance before eventually securing a multi-pack.

‘There is classic, thin, ribbed – I would avoid using the warming one because you get a rash really easily down there,’ Charlotte tells Lily before handing them over.
