Veteran broadcaster has announced when he will be back on-screen for his new evening talk show ahead of his move to .Â
the Scottish interviewer, 72, would be set to front a weekly political analysis show airing on Sunday nights.Â
It came after mounting speculation he would be making the switch to Channel 4 after on Prime Minister – following Neil’s.
Now, the famed interviewer has told fans it won’t not be long before he’s back grilling some of the country’s political heavyweights
After a social media follower asked him when his programme would be set to start, he responded: ‘6pm Sunday May 8th. The Andrew Neil Show. Channel 4. Thanks for asking.’
In response, one Twitter user wrote to the broadcaster: ‘Will be a breath of fresh air, long overdue.’Â
A fan added: ‘Looking forward to it Andrew.’
‘Will you have Portillo and Abbott on the show?’ asked another.
Former Conservative MP Michael Portillo and Labour’s Diane Abbott previously joined Neil on his This Week programme which ran on BBC One for over 15 years.
Neil’s series marks Channel 4’s first weekly politics show broadcast on the channel since A Week In Politics, which was axed in 1997.
The 10-part series will examine the biggest events of the moment and feature set-piece interviews with the highest profile politicians and newsmakers.
It will also be accompanied by a weekly podcast.
After his new gig was confirmed back in February, he shared: ‘I’m honoured and delighted to be presenting a new Sunday night political show for Channel 4.
‘Sunday night is a pivotal point in the political week — we can sweep up what’s happened in the previous week, mop up what’s been in the Sunday papers and talk shows and throw forward to the upcoming week. We’ll aim to do all of that and more.’
Neil left the BBC after 25 years shortly after his programme, The Andrew Neil Show, was scrapped back in 2020 – .Â
Despite his tenure on the brand-new channel initially drawing viewing figures as high as 300,000, a multitude of production issues and other setbacks saw him quit after just three months.
