ripped up the dancefloor as she shocked viewers with a seriously daring move.
The legendary TV star is Strictly’s oldest-ever contestant at 78, but she proved age was no barrier as she danced the Cha Cha with professional partner to Get The Party Started by Dame Shirley Bassey.
In what was already a fun and feisty dance, Angela had viewers in shock as she gave an incredible high kick during the routine – impressing both viewers and, vitally, the judges.
Craig Revel Horwood, who is infamously hard to impress, even described it as ‘jaw-dropping’ – as said she had ‘never seen him so happy.’
Motsi Mabuse said: ‘That was a statement, that’s how you start a Saturday night … my goodness!’
And Shirley admitted the whole thing made her ’emotional’ as she thought back on her and Angela’s history, with Angela having introduced her on the UK Championships years before.
Fans flocked to Twitter, aka X, where they shared their awe at Angela’s moves, many labeling her ‘A QUEEN, A STAR, AN ICON.’
Another joked the star was ‘reminding me that my hips are stiff’ as they shared a snap of Angela’s high kick, with another agreeing ‘I can’t even touch my toes.’
‘How can Angela Rippon get her leg up that high at 78?? I can’t even do that at 23,’ another shocked viewer said.
‘Just absolutely incredible Angela Rippon,’ one gushed, while more than one was already predicting a win for the TV icon.
‘I gotta say Angela Rippon has the energy and attitude of someone half her age! The dance looks so iconic,’ another fan declared.
Angela’s incredible moves had landed her on the top of the leaderboard with a seriously impressive seven points from each of the judges – but there’s plenty more to come.
Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzma later took over on the top spot after their gorgeous Samba.
