The knack of making predictions that come true years later just keep on coming.
This week, to receive confirmation from the hip hop group that they were planning on playing with the London Symphony Orchestra, almost three decades after their collaboration formed the basis for a joke on the sitcom.
Now, in light of the news of ’s arrest and the latest teaser from ’s making waves, The Simpsons viewers have dug into the show’s archives to reveal yet another eerie coincidence.
This week, Trump has become the first or current US president in history to be formally charged with a crime.
He was on Tuesday wearing a dark blue suit and a red tie, after a grand jury indicted him on 34 felony charges for falsifying business records.
It was alleged that seven years ago, Trump paid adult film Stormy Daniels to keep news of an affair quiet, reportedly instructing his attorney to make the payments weeks before his presidential election.
On the same day that the former Apprentice host was seen in court, a was released for the upcoming Barbie film, starring Babylon star Robbie as the lead character alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken.
A for the movie was also released, featuring characters played by stars including Issa Rae, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Dua Lipa and Emma Mackey.
Funnily enough, in 1994, an episode of The Simpsons was released called Lisa vs Malibu Stacy, in which Lisa implores the creators of the doll to make a toy that sends a more feminist message to young girls.
In the episode, newsreader Kent Brockman is urged by his daughter to do a newscast about a new doll called Lisa Lionheart, a new doll made by Lisa and Malibu Stacy creator Stacy Lovell.
Later, the Simpsons family watch Brockman speak on the news about the doll, as he says: ‘Though it was unusual to spend 28 minutes reporting on a doll, this reporter found it impossible to stop talking. It’s just really fascinating news folks. Good night.’
In a quick side note before the programme ends, he then reveals that the president has been arrested.
While the circumstances of the president’s arrest on The Simpsons are different – as in the cartoon, the fictional version of the commander in chief is arrested for murder – people couldn’t help but point out the parallels between the episode and real-life events.
An author who goes by the handle on Twitter shared a screenshot of the episode in question, writing: ‘This is literally the news today.’
‘Not gonna lie this is the wildest Simpsons prediction yet,’ someone else commented, while another person added: ‘Someone in The Simpsons writers room has to be a prophet because HOW.’
