Frederic Forrest, star of Apocalypse Now, has died aged 86.
The sad news was confirmed by, who described him as a ‘remarkable actor’ and ‘brilliant human being’.
Taking to Twitter last night, she wrote: ‘The great and beloved Frederic Forrest has died.
‘Thank you to all of his fans and friends for all their support these last few months.
‘He was a remarkable actor, and a brilliant human being, and I was lucky to have him in my life. He was at peace.’
Forrest’s cause of death is unclear.
The Texas-born actor rose to prominence in the 1970s after his performance in When the Legends Die earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
But his career really took off when he was cast as Jay Hicks in the war film classic, Apocalypse Now.
in the 1979 rock musical, which launched the actress’ career.
Apocalypse Now director Francis Ford Coppola and the late star collaborated on a number of films together, including One From The Heart and The Conversation.
The Conversation – also starring Harrison Ford earnt the prestigious Palme D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and is thought to be one of the best films ever to come out of America.
Other prominent roles including those in The Executioner, The Missouri Breaks, Hammett, Cat Chaser, The Brave, Trauma, and Lassie.
His final film would be All the King’s Men in 2006.
Forrest got divorced twice, with his most recent wife being Between the Lines star Marilu Henner, who he was married to from 1980 to 1982.
His first wife was Nancy Ann Whittaker who Forrest divorced from after three years of marriage in 1963.
Fans mourned the loss in the comments section of Bette’s tweet, as one wrote: ‘RIP Houston… Sorry for your loss, Bette. Every time I watch the Rose I hope he turns around and comes back…’
Another said, ‘So sorry for your loss! He was a wonderful actor,’ while another fan simply put: ‘Wonderful actor. Grateful to have seen his work. May he R.I.P.’
