Yasin Sulaiman was detained on March 24 and charged with trafficking 214 grammes of cannabis. The crime was allegedly conducted at his Kota Damansara home.

He was previously accused with growing drugs and cultivating 17 cannabis-like plants in the same location. Before Sessions Court Judge Norshila Kamaruddin, Sulaiman pled not guilty to the accusation.

Sulaiman’s case will be referred to the High Court because his sentence includes the death penalty, according to Free Malaysia Today.

After being accused with trafficking cannabis in a magistrates’ court, Yasin Sulaiman might face the death penalty as well as prison time. The charges were read out to magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah, but he did not enter a plea.

He was accused under the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952, Section 39B (1)(a). Sulaiman faces up to 15 strokes of the rotan and the death penalty or life imprisonment if convicted under Section 39B (2) of the same Act.

The singer has also been accused under the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952, Section 6B (1)(a). It carries a maximum penalty of six rotan strokes and life imprisonment if convicted.
