Netflix’s filmed version of , a derided Broadway show about Princess Diana’s life story, has swept the board at the 42nd Razzie Awards.
Announced the day before the Academy Awards honour Hollywood’s finest, the Razzies – or ‘Hollywood’s ugly Oscars’ – name and shame the year’s perceived worst films.
Diana the Musical received five awards at the event, including worst actress for Jeanna de Waal, who played the late princess, as well as worst picture, worst supporting actress, worst director and worst screenplay.
The show was originally performed at the Longacre Theatre in New York before a filmed version was released on Netflix in October last year.
The Razzies described the film as ‘the all-singing, all-dancing, all-awful, royal mess,’ while some critics have said ‘Diana: The Musical’ makes Cats ‘look like a masterpiece.’
One person who watched the production wrote online: ‘Anyone thinking of watching Diana the Musical to see how bad it is. Don’t. You will never get that time back. It’s not even so bad that it’s good. Just terrible.’
However, some on social media have defended the musical, with one person saying: ‘Listen Diana the Musical is far from a masterpiece but the way people get inexplicably angry at any praise of it whatsoever is bizarre to me.’

The prize for worst screen couple went to James and ‘any Warner cartoon character (or WarnerMedia product) he dribbles on’, while the film was also crowned worst remake, rip-off or sequel, following the 1996 film with Michael Jordan.
Meanwhile, Bruce Willis was also given his own – worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 movie –with eight films nominated, including Cosmic Sin.
Jarad Leto scooped the worst supporting actor gong for his divisive performance in House of Gucci, while Will Smith – winner of four Razzies throughout this career – received the redeemer award for his role in King Richard.
