presenter has reportedly parted ways with her husband of more than a decade.
The split between the journalist, 51, and the businessman, 52, is said to be amicable after they ‘grew apart.’
It has been claimed the couple, who share a teenage son, ‘tried to tough it out for quite a while’ but ultimately decided to call it quits.
‘It’s very sad but they are no longer together,’ a source shared.
‘I think they tried to tough it out for quite a while as they didn’t want to split up if they could possibly help it for the sake of their son but they clearly couldn’t make a go of it.
They continued to the : ‘They’ve both been very guarded about the reasons behind their growing apart but it’s been plain for a while that they had been and now it’s obvious that they haven’t been able to resolve that despite clearly trying for some time.’
Sally has been very private about her personal life and has never ever shared details of her marriage or the name of her son.
On her it reads: ‘Sally is married with one child – a football and rugby mad boy.’
The broadcaster, replacing Louise Minchin, having worked on the programme previously on a freelance basis.
In addition to helming the news, she has fronted a series of high profile interviews and prime-time BBC documentaries, including one on and his quest to end child food poverty.
After studying at the University of Huddersfield, she started her career at BBC Radio Merseyside, before moving on to present sports news on BBC North West Tonight.
On her BBC Breakfast appointment, Sally said at the time: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled to become the new presenter of BBC Breakfast and bring the nation the latest news, top entertainment guests and stories that matter every week.
‘It’s an honour to take the reins from Louise and be part of the UK’s most-watched breakfast show.’
