Radio 1 DJ has lifted the lid on a very awkward celebrity encounter ahead of the 2024 .
The broadcaster joins and as part of following in after the comedian stepped down.
Naturally, excitement is high as music fans eagerly await the announcements of who has scooped the top prizes.
Speaking ahead of this year’s ceremony – which takes place on a Saturday for the first time – Clara told Metro.co.uk about her biggest cringe-worthy celebrity encounter.
‘One time Jason Derulo came into Radio 1. I was interviewing him,’ she began.
‘Someone from his team asked me to make them a cup of tea or coffee and it was like, outside of a work context? Sure. But when I’m about to interview an artist on national radio? No, we’re not doing that, sorry.’
To be fair, Clara, we wouldn’t want that added pressure either.
Clara has interviewed plenty of big stars in her time, Jason included, but there’s one she still has to tick off her list.
‘Rihanna… she’s really compelling,’ she fangirled.
‘She is still just that girl from Barbados but an international icon… [and] relatively, I think, unfiltered in a way, there’s no media training there. Brilliant.’
As far as the Brits are concerned, Clara is ‘excited’ but, understandably, ‘a tiny bit nervous’.
Thankfully, she’s been given plenty of advice from hosts of previous years.
‘Lovely Emma Willis… she said to me, “Just enjoy yourself, that’s the only thing I wish I did because it goes by so quickly.”
‘Your peer group are in the room, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet a lot of the artists who are nominated and going to be performing, so there’s a lovely safety and warmth there, but also these are your peers and people that you know, so you want to do a good job.’
As she joins Capital Radio’s Roman and Love Island’s Maya, Clara was quizzed on her ‘gameplan’.
‘I wouldn’t call it a strategy. It’s the age-old thing of, you’ve just got to be yourself,’ she shared.
‘I remember saying to Roman, “I’m not going to be like Jack Whitehall or Mo [Gilligan] or James [Corden].” I love to have fun and I can be funny, but I know I’m not a comedian.
‘Trying to force something you’re naturally not, viewers are so savvy to that kind of thing.’
When it comes to the actual awards, anticipation is high, with the likes of Raye already expected to win big
She’s received a nod in the big category, album of the year, alongside J Hus, Lil Simz, Blur, and Young Fathers.
Song of the year could go to Stormzy, who is nominated for Firebabe, while Billie Eilish’s Barbie tune, What Was I Made For, is up for international song of the year.
Whoever wins, it’s certain to be a massive night for British music thanks to the performances lighting up the stage.
Fresh off the Grammys stage, Dua Lipa will treat us to another bop session once again, while Aussie pop queen Kylie Minogue will also perform.
Not everyone is thrilled about the nominations, however, as while Kylie may have been nominated for international artist following her comeback with album Tension, sadly, her hit single Padam Padam didn’t get a nod in the song category.
Who will take home the gongs? Find out this Saturday when the Brit Awards 2024 air on ITV1 and ITVX.
