All you fans rejoice – there’s a new song coming from the band that features Freddie Mercury on vocals.
The , who was famed for his impressive vocal range and incomparable stage presence, died in 1991 at the age of just 45.
And Mercury hasn’t featured on new Queen material since 1996 single You Don’t Fool Me, released posthumously on the band’s final album Made in Heaven.
But all that is about to change, thanks to old recordings of Mercury being discovered recently by the band.
‘We did find a little gem from Freddie that we’d kind of forgotten about,’ drummer Roger Taylor revealed to Zoe Ball on her BBC Radio 2 show.
‘It’s wonderful. Actually, it was real discovery,’ Taylor, 72, added.
‘It’s from The Miracle sessions, and I think it’s going to be out in September.’
Guitarist Brian May, 74, described the old recording as ‘beautiful’ and ‘touching’, and praised the band’s production team for bringing it to life.
‘It was kind of hiding in plain sight,’ he said. ‘We looked at it many times and thought, “Oh no, we can’t really rescue that.”‘
‘But in fact’, May added, ‘we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team [said], “Okay, we can do this.”‘
The news comes as Queen continue to tour Europe with American singer-songwriter Adam Lambert, who has fronted the act ever since 2014.
Lambert, 40, finished as runner-up on American Idol in 2009 and had a string of Billboard solo hits in the US, before joining up with Taylor and May.
Since then, they have performed a number of sell-out worldwide tours to Queen fans who believe that Lambert has stepped comfortably into Mercury’s shoes.
The trio were part of the line-up for at the Palace during the weekend’s celebrations, as more than 13 million people watched on.
In front of a crowd of thousands, they performed a selection of the band’s classic hits, including We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, and Don’t Stop Me Now.
