star Captain Lee Rosbach might be a firm favorite of the Bravo franchise but you really don’t want to get on his bad side.
Fans of the show will know that he has very strict rules in place for his crew during every charter season, mainly urging them not to ‘embarrass themselves or the boat’ – to anyone who doesn’t follow his guidelines.
Something Dane Jackson found out the hard way in season three, following an explosive cast night out…
Appearing at BravoCon alongside his fellow captains from the other spin-off programs, he was asked about his least favorite crew member, and did not hold back, recalling the moment he was forced to put the deckhand in a hotel over his antics.
‘There’s a long list,’ Captain Lee replied. ‘I have to think that Dane probably made it to the top.
‘Dane was just tough. And not only did he embarrass the boat, he embarrassed all of the crew members, and probably had absolutely no clue that he embarrassed himself as much as he did.
‘Then, when I brought him up to the wheelhouse after he woke me up in the middle of the night three times – three o’clock in the morning, 3.15am, 3.30am – at four o’clock, I finally put him in a hotel room and said, “This is where you’re going to spend the rest of the night. I’ll talk to you in the morning.”’
Not words anyone ever wants to hear from the fan-proclaimed ‘stud of the sea’.
Things became even more awkward the next day when the pair had a discussion about what went down the previous night.
‘So he strolls down the dock, gets on board, comes up to the wheelhouse,’ Captain Lee continued. ‘And he said, “You know, I think I probably should resign.”
‘I said, “Oh no, no, no. That’s not the way this works. You don’t deserve the right to resign. You, my good man, are fired.
‘“You are not even allowed to go down and get your belongings, we will pack them for you, and see that they get to your hotel room, just before we put your dumb ass on a plane.’”
Note to self – never, ever embarrass the boat, yourself, or Captain Lee…
Dane arrived on board as a replacement for engineer Don Abenante, but was asked to leave very shortly after.
During a crew night out, he drank too much and became hostile, with bosun Eddie Lucas demanding that he return home early while they carried on with their evening.
Eddie later described him as ‘one of the worst people’ that he has worked with during his time at sea, during a game on the Side Piece with Melissa Pfeister podcast.
In the game, he was asked for who he would ‘throw overboard’ between Dane and Shane Coopersmith, and wasted no time with his reply.
‘Dane,’ he said. ‘I’ll throw him overboard any day of the week. Dane is probably one of the worst people I’ve ever worked with.
‘A horrible person.’
