According to sources, when crew members refused the request, Boy George stormed off and hid behind a tree to prevent the camera team from filming him.
As he concealed himself in the foliage, the insider said he pinched an apple from a shocked member of staff.
reports producers had to pull out the stops to make Boy George continue with the juggernaut series and eventually convinced him to stay.
ITV bosses then held crisis talks over concerns Boy George might U-turn later on his decision to stay in Australia, the publication reports.
An insider told The Sun: ‘George threw a massive strop and demanded to be driven in his own buggy – but were having none of it as they said it would not be fair on the others.
‘He then stormed into one of the production crew tents and pinched an apple, before hiding behind trees so that he couldn’t be filmed by any of the show’s cameras.
‘It was a proper temper tantrum, but George wasn’t backing down.
‘He was threatening to walk out of the show, and in that moment he probably would have done.’
They continued: ‘Luckily one of the producers was able to retrieve him, sit him down in a tent and convince him not to leave.
‘It was a real storm in a teacup, and thankfully in the end he recognised that and agreed to go back to camp.’
So far in the jungle, Boy George has made no secret about his , whose decision to join the show has been controversial.
He told Strictly star Seann Walsh: ‘Can’t stand Matt. I have tried to like him and I’ve failed. I find him slimy, I find him slippery.’
Boy George appeared to be upset about a ‘look’ Hancock had given him after he made a joke about chocolate, and continued: ‘I’ve tried to separate what I feel about him from who he is as a person, but I can’t.’
