Bridgerton creator addresses why fans didn’t get to see Kate and Anthony’s wedding in season 2 after disappointment

The creator of Bridgerton has addressed why season 2 between Kate Sharma () and Anthony Bridgerton (), despite huge disappointment from fans.

In the second instalment of the sizzling Netflix period drama, Anthony, the Viscount, decided to make Edwina Sharma () his bride after she was named the Diamond of the social season by Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel).

Despite forging an obvious and , Anthony almost tied the knot with Edwina in a ceremony sponsored by the Queen herself, which was only brought to a halt when the bride realised the feelings shared between her sister and her fiancé.

In the end, Kate and Anthony eventually married with Edwina’s blessing, with the final scenes of the show showing them kissing in full view of the Bridgerton family.

However, some fans were upset that the couple’s wedding wasn’t actually shown, the closest scene being when Anthony imagined Kate as his bride on the day of his nuptials to Edwina.

When addressing why Kate and Anthony’s wedding was missing from the show, executive producer and showrunner Chris Van Dusen explained that the creators of the show ‘wondered how Kate and Anthony’s wedding would compare’ to Edwina and Anthony’s ceremony ‘tonally speaking’.

‘The Queen sponsored Edwina and Anthony’s wedding, and she wasn’t going to do it twice,’ he told .

Chris also emphasised how important it was to place focus on Kate and Edwina’s relationship as sisters, aside from the romance at the centre of the story.

‘There is also the Kate and Edwina bond. Her sisterly love story with Kate was just as important as the main love story between Anthony and Kate,’ he said.

While it may have been a bit much to depict two wedding ceremonies one after the other on season two, that hasn’t stopped viewers from sharing how much they wished they’d seen Kate and Anthony exchange their ‘I dos’.

‘Just imagine how powerful a Kanthony wedding would’ve been,’ one person tweeted, while another wrote: ‘Manifesting we get a flashback of their wedding in season 3 because we were robbed.’

Someone else remarked that they wanted to see Kate’s dog, Newton, walking down the aisle with her.

‘I can’t believe we were robbed of Anthony and Kate’s wedding………that was just not fair AT ALL!’ another fan exclaimed.

While the third season of Bridgerton will centre on another sibling in the family, Simone has confirmed that this isn’t the end of Kanthony on screen.

‘She’s going to be Viscountess, so I’m super-excited to continue the story,’ she told , while Jonathan added: ‘I know he’ll be completely devoted to her, so I’m excited to see that and to explore.’
