Dearest reader, is officially back on our screens with the dropping on Netflix.
While series one viewers fell in love with Rege-Jean Page’s Duke of Hastings and ’s Daphne Bridgerton, the new episodes focus on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey)
We welcome (Kate Sharma) and Charithra Chandran (Edwina Sharma) and it’s safe to say we won’t be short of a Scan**l or two.
But, while the regency drama is back in full force, some viewers might be a bit baffled about when and where it’s set.
And no, you did not imagine the orchestral tones of Madonna’s Material Girl at the ball.
When is Bridgerton set?
Bridgerton is set around the early 19th century, in the regency era.
However, showrunner supreme Shonda Rimes made sure to include some 21st century nods, including the use of modern songs in the ballroom scenes.
Rege-Jean previously opened up about the time period, saying: ‘You realise that these characters are dealing with very 21st-century problems in the show.
‘People have always had the same desires and needs, no matter whether it’s 200 years ago or now. It’s just dressed up in different clothes and shaped by different societal restrictions
‘We’re seeing this Regency romance through a feminist lens, examining what masculinity means for a broken antihero like my character. And how he can then allow himself to change and be loved.’
Where is Bridgerton set?
Bridgerton is set in regency London, with the debutantes being presented to the court.
However, filming takes place all over England.
The gorgeous ballroom scenes are filmed at the Great Conservatory of Syon while many other scenes were filmed in Bath.
Other London locations included Hampton Court and Windsor Great Park, while some scenes were filmed in Salisbury and Uxbridge.
Bridgerton season 2 is on Netflix now.
