The duo are known for their annual jibes they make at one another on the popular programme, but according to reports, the 50-year-old funnyman took it a step too far during Saturday’s episode.
Before wowed the crowd with their joyous routine, David asked the group: ‘Are you a fan of Simon Cowell? Does he look like your grandad?’
The source claimed that although the remark ‘got a laugh from the audience’ the 62-year-old music mogul wasn’t particularly bothered by the quip.
‘It’s odd the joke was taken out of the final cut as David has made far cheekier gags about Simon and they’ve stayed in,’ an insider told .
This wouldn’t be the first time David and Simon have supposedly locked horns during the BGT auditions.
In January, reports claimed that Simon was livid with the Little Britain star
reported that David said ‘arrest me now’ before going on to ask whether the contestant’s talent was ‘getting your c*ck out?’
The publication goes on to allege that the record executive then ordered David to leave the auditorium while reminding him: ‘This is supposed to be a family show.’
The judging panel – which includes Simon, David, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon – reunited for the first time in two years last week after the ITV series was cancelled in 2021 due to the pandemic.
