is back for 2022, and fans have had to wait over two years for the show to return after Covid put the brakes on the 2021 series.

As the show returns, fans can expect the usual jaw-dropping acts, memorable moments and, of course, the Golden Buzzer.

Hitting the Golden Buzzer is always a big moment on BGT, but just what does it mean? Here we explain how the Golden Buzzer works…

How does the Golden Buzzer work on BGT?

If an act receives the Golden Buzzer they are guaranteed to progress straight to the live semi-finals, bypassing the bootcamp stages.

This is the case even if every other judge gave them the red buzzer.

The Golden Buzzer can be pressed by the four judges – Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon – and by hosts Ant and Dec.

How many times can the Golden Buzzer be used?

Each judge gets one Golden Buzzer per series, and Ant and Dec share a Golden Buzzer selection too.

So, in total, there can be five Golden Buzzer acts picked.

Ant and Dec ran down to the judges bench to hit the buzzer for the comedian who performed a song about his two sons and his late father.
