Britney Spears makes surprise chart comeback just as ex Justin Timberlake releases new song

has re-entered the charts with a historic hit after her ex-boyfriend released .

The Toxic hitmaker, 42, has smashed the Top 10 on iTunes with her single Selfish – on the same day as , made a comeback with his song of the same name.

Britney’s Selfish originally featured on her 2011 album Femme Fatale, and the efforts to see the single enter the charts, in true petty style, seem to have come from accounts on urging fans to stream the single in response to Justin’s release.

The 13-year-old song has reached the number eight spot, with Britney fan account BritneyxYtube saying the act of pure pop pettiness ‘started as a joke.’

‘Then we all joined in, saying that Britney Spears was coming back with a “brand” new song, I still can’t believe that it became so big, and we see the results we see now,’ they told .

‘We are all so happy to see her song making a comeback after all these years!!!’

The Cry Me A River hitmaker’s latest single comes from Everything I Thought It Was, his first new album in five years. Selfish was released yesterday (January 26) with Timberlake announcing the news on his Instagram pages.

Many fans became convinced that Selfish took aim at his ex as the dust settled after Britney The Woman In Me detailing her turbulent relationship with Justin, her abortion while they dated and cheating claims. 

SexyBack hitmaker Justin was heavily condemned following the release of Britney’s memoir, which also sparked renewed interest in his song Cry Me A River, reportedly written about their big break-up.

After catching heat,  before performing his track in December. 

‘No disrespect,’ he said to fans packed into the 5,000 seater venue, before the song’s iconic rain-drenched intro played, seemingly addressing his famous ex. 

Britney, who was released from her restrictive conservatorship in 2021, released the bombshell book last year which spilled the beans on her relationships and family life, .
