Busy Philipps has described the terrifying moment when she watched her daughter have a seizure over FaceTime.
The eldest child, – who she has with– attends boarding in Sweden.
So when disaster struck, a horrified Busy, 44, had to watch her medical episode play out from far away.
Speaking on her , she said: ‘I was just kind of, like, muttering to myself and then I heard Marc screaming for me and I was like, “What does this guy want now?”
‘And I went upstairs but then I heard his voice and I knew something was really wrong. And he just said, “It’s Birdie, it’s Birdie. She’s had another seizure. The paramedics are on the .”
‘The paramedics were on FaceTime and she had just come out of the seizure and she was still in the post-aura state. They were like, hooking her up with stuff and on FaceTime.’
Birdie and her friend had left school to go to the cinema in Stockholm and Busy recalled how ‘terrifying’ it was to see her ‘just reaching’.
She added that her daughter’s friend who was with her was ‘holding the phone’ making for ‘this weird medium shot.’
‘You could see everything that was happening. So it felt, it was just so weird.’
She added that Birdie was ‘reaching toward the camera’ and ‘calling out’ for her.
The teen was saying: ‘Mama. Mama. Mama. Where are you? Mama.’
Busy then praised her daughter’s friend, Sarah, for taking charge of the scary situation.
‘Birdie’s friend Sarah, shout out Sarah, literally, I don’t even understand. She’s 17 but this girl managed to get one person to go tell the theatre, to shut it down, she got two guys that they obviously didn’t know, that were sitting behind, because Birdie started choking and throwing up, to move Birdie gently to the ground and put her on her side. She got someone else to call the Swedish 911.’
Following the ordeal, Busy, Marc, and their 11-year-old daughter, Cricket took the first flight out of New York to Sweden, while pal Sarah waited in the hospital with Birdie overnight.
Once the teen was given the all-clear, she was discharged and she was taken home to the States.
Describing the emotional toll the whole thing took on her, Busy said, that despite Birdie being ‘ok’, she needed to open up to her therapist about it.
‘My therapist yesterday said, she was like, “You sound like you’re disassociating.”
‘And I understand because I feel like this year has, I don’t understand what’s happening.’
The actress added that she feels like she’s ‘stuck in a movie’ and just desperately wants ‘to be in [my life] again’.
‘Like, my movie, where things are ok.’
Busy admitted it wasn’t the first time she had been unable to be with Birdie when she had a seizure.
The teen had previously collapsed when she was on set for the first day of filming her upcoming movie, Mean Girls.
Unable to leave set, Busy explained how Marc ‘had run to the school’, arriving at the same time as the paramedics.
‘It was really awful seeing it on a screen, being in a different country across an ocean,’ Busy added.
