Love Island star , 32, on how one plastic bottle will last her a year and husband ’s unusual proposal.

Do you have a Love Island WhatsApp group?

People do still keep in touch and everyone wants the best for each other but the last two years have meant there hasn’t been the chance to have a reunion in person.

Also, we were on in 2017 and the whole WhatsApp thing hadn’t taken off then. It feels like so long ago!

Do you still watch the programme?

Gosh, I still love it and I watch it whenever I get the chance, but now that I have a little baby my viewing depends on when bedtimes happen and if everything goes according to plan.

Did husband Jamie Jewitt propose with the help of baby Nell?

He planned such a clever proposal and it was wonderful because Nell absolutely had a major role. When he proposed, we were in lockdown so we were all at home.

He pretended that Nell had spilt something on her and said he had to go and change her top. He put her in a little dress which had ‘Mummy, will you marry my daddy?’ printed on the front – which was just the cutest thing ever.

I love the way he thought it all out and I am 100% completely going to keep that dress forever as a reminder of that lovely moment.

What was the best thing about getting married between lockdowns?

We’d had a couple of years where big events just hadn’t happened so it felt like we were back to normal again – and the fact it was incredibly normal was lovely.

It made us really appreciate the day and seeing all our family and friends around us – and having Nell there.

She was flower girl but she was a bit too little to be running around sprinkling petals so her main role was to be the cutest flower girl ever!

Do you have any lockdown skills you can share with us – like banana bread?

I wish I could say I used my time really constructively and learned a new language but I did not.

I maybe read a few more pregnancy books than I would have done otherwise. But I suppose, like a lot of people, I spent a lot of time in front of Netflix.

It was a time of huge change for me and Jamie, and we tried to make the most of it together – walking the dogs and really enjoying our local area.

It was always going to be a huge time of upheaval anyway because I had a baby and your life totally changes from that moment.

You had a lockdown baby – was that difficult?

To be honest, it was my first baby and I ended up being quite fortunate because I was able to work from home during the pregnancy.

And as much as it was difficult not being able to see people, we had regular Zoom calls with my family so they were able to be involved and to see the pregnancy progressing.

I didn’t know if it was any different from having a first baby out of lockdown and luckily I don’t have any negative memories.

Do people recognise you all the time from Love Island?

Do you know what? Our series was such a long time ago and I have changed my hair about 100 times since then so, if I’m completely honest, it doesn’t happen that often.

It happens more if I’m with Jamie because he’s tall and stands out but with everyone wearing masks over the past two years, I genuinely haven’t been recognised for a long time.

How did you get involved with Ecover’s campaign to refill bottles?

Finding out that the average British household throws away seven plastic bottles a week made me stop and think about some of the small changes I could be making to reduce our own negative impact on the environment.

It’s something that’s always been important to me but since becoming a mum, I really have been thinking of the future generations.

I love the way that clever little switches can all add up and make a difference.

Refilling my washing-up liquid bottle is a sustainable change I can make at home and it actually feels like fun to make a difference like this.

So let’s get this straight, you have a plastic bottle today that you’re going to use for an entire year…

That’s definitely my plan. I made a pledge today to use the plastic bottle with my detergent for the whole year. I’m keeping it and putting it to work instead of just recycling it.

As a nation we’ve all become well versed in recycling. But it’s lovely to add the refilling aspect to our daily lives.

The bottle I’m keeping and refilling through the year is Ecover bio laundry honeysuckle and jasmine and if you want your laundry to smell like heaven I really recommend it.

We can check in again in April 2023 and see how I’ve managed with this bottle!
