Comedian Chris had just made a joke about ’s hair, allegedly not knowing at the time that she suffers from alopecia.
Since the shocking moment unfolded on live TV in March, Will has faced severe backlash, and on Saturday it was announced he would be banned from the Oscars for 10 years.
Chris has about the incident, referencing it only briefly at his first stand-up show since the Oscars where he admitted he was ‘still kind of processing what happened.’
Now, at his most recent stand-up show for his , Chris has again referenced the controversy – but said he won’t go into detail until he gets paid for it.
According to local outlet , the comedian told audiences in Coachella Valley: ‘I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that until I get paid.’
‘Life is good,’ he added.
The Madagascar star then joked that he finally ‘got my hearing back’ after the slap, before moving on to his normal routine.
Ticket sales for Chris’ world tour have reportedly spiked since the now-infamous Oscars event, though things haven’t exactly been smooth.
At a recent show, the comedian was heckled by an audience member who shouted Will’s name during his show.
Chris shut it down quickly however, replying simply: ‘No, no, no, no, no.’
The comedian did not engage further with the heckler and continued his show as normal.
Will, meanwhile, apologised for his actions but it proved too little too late, with the Academy announcing he would be banned from the ceremony for 10 years over the violence.
The news was announced in an open letter from Academy president David Rubin, who described Smith’s actions as ‘unacceptable and harmful’.
He said: ‘The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr Smith exhibit on stage.’
The Academy went on to express their ‘deep gratitude’ to Chris ‘for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances.’
