CNN issued an apology to  after misgendering her twice in an on-air segment.
On Tuesday, correspondent Ryan Young incorrectly referred to the 26-year-old using the pronouns he/him – a mistake that wasn’t corrected by Young and co-presenter Kate Bolduan.
The two journalists were talking about the boycott of Bud Light after the beer brand entered into a sponsorship deal with Mulvaney back in April.
The beer brand became the target of intense backlash after sending Mulvaney a personalised can to celebrate the one year anniversary of her ‘Days of Girlhood’ series.
Young provided background information on the online personality – but misgendered her in the process.
‘He, of course, is the transgender person they were going to sponsor and go along with, with Bud Light,’ he said.
‘But they didn’t like how Bud Light didn’t stand by him after all this.’
Following the broadcast, the network came under fire, with viewers slamming CNN for misgendering the social media star.
‘What horrible coverage and the pundit couldn’t even correct the misgendering of Dylan. This makes me sad,’ one person wrote.
Mulvaney came out as a transgender during the COVID-19 pandemic and gained attention for their tongue-in-cheek TikTok series that started with ‘Day 1 of Being a Girl.’
On Wednesday, anchor Bolduan addressed the mistake and issued an apology to the influencer live on-air.
She said: ‘Yesterday in a segment about transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, who was featured in Bud Light’s recent campaign, she was mistakenly referred to by the wrong pronouns.’
‘CNN aims to honor individuals ways of identifying themselves and we apologise for that error,’ she added.
