The creators of are reportedly set to make a new spin-off based on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
As pretty much everyone on the internet knows, Cobra Kai became among Netflix users when it moved to the service for the third season in 2021.
Based on the smash-hit 1980s film franchise The Karate Kid, the series follows the original Karate Kid Daniel Larusso, played by Ralph Macchio, as an adult – but still facing grief from high-school bully Johnny Lawrence, played by William Zabka.
Now the creators of the hugely popular series are turning their hands to a different 80s classic: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
As reported by , a new film based on the 1986 comedy is in the works from Cobra Kai makers Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald.
The new film is reportedly titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off, and centres around the valet attendants who took the Ferrari on a joy ride in the original film.
While the valet attendants did not have names in the Matthew Broderick hit, the characters have now been named Sam and Victor (no prizes for guessing that one, based on the title).
The spin-off is reported to take place on the same day as Ferris’ calamitous adventure and will see the attendants – originally played by RIchard Edson and Larry ‘Flash’ Jenkins – go off on an adventure of their own.
Bill Posley is believed to be writing the film, while producer Paul Young of Key & Peele fame is producing through his company Make Good Content.
The fourth series of their acclaimed show Cobra Kai hit Netflix on New Year’s Eve last year, with a fifth to be released in September.
In fact, the next season had already finished filming before the fourth was even released.
Martin Kove – the veteran actor who plays Kreese – took to Twitter to announce he had wrapped on season 5 on , while co-creator Hurwitz also confirmed the wrap of the Atlanta-based production on his account.
The co-creator previously told that they do have an end in mind for the show, whenever that may be.
‘We’ve always had a set end game, as to where the story’s going, but we’ve said from the beginning that we weren’t sure exactly how many seasons it’ll take to get there,’ he said.
‘So, we can’t tell you exactly how many seasons we’re going to have, but we know that we’re going to enter each season with enthusiasm and confidence.’
