Comedian ‘seeking help’ after falling asleep behind wheel led to DUI arrest

The 43-year-old actress was arrested in LA on Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence.

In a new interview, Haddish said her Tesla self-parked after she fell asleep.

However, the vehicle was blocking part of the street, leading to her arrest by Beverly Hills Police Department officers.

Of the ordeal, Haddish told : ‘I’m going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries.’

Breaking her silence less than 24 hours after being detained, the star addressed her brush with the law during her stand-up show at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach.

Performing on Thanksgiving, the comic replied to an audience member who asked ‘What happened last night?’, as per audio obtained by . 

‘What happened last night?’, Haddish responded, before a long pause while the crowd laughed and applauded.

‘I don’t know, you tell me.’ 

Haddish then joked that her prayers for a man ‘in uniform’ were ‘answered’.

‘I prayed to God to send me a man with a job. A career. Preferably in a uniform. God answered my prayers,’ she said.

A spokesperson for the Beverly Hills police told the PA news agency: ‘After an investigation, we arrested her for DUI (driving under the influence), she was booked and then she was released about an hour ago.’

Haddish will appear at Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles at a date that is yet to be decided.

A watch commander for the BHPD told : ‘We responded to a call of a vehicle on the roadway at 5.45 this morning.’

He also noted that officers were told the driver was ‘asleep behind the wheel’, but stressed that there were ‘no traffic collisions.’

This marks the second time that the Haunted Mansion star has been in trouble with the law for falling asleep at the wheel.

Last January, she was arrested for a DUI while in Georgia after police officers responded to a 911 call and was later transported to Fayette County Jail ‘without incident’.

At the time, she spent a few hours in custody before paying $1,666 (£1,321) in bonds and being released.
