To say and Joe Alwyn are a power couple would be an understatement, and now the actor is taking over our TV screens with new series, Conversations With Friends.
The BBC show is loosely based on the book by Sally Rooney, who also wrote .
Starring Joe, the passionate adaptation sees Alison Oliver as Frances, and Sasha Lane as her ex-girlfriend and best friend Bobbi, become embroiled in a complicated relationship with Melissa (), a writer, and her husband Nick.
If you’ve seen Normal People (and who hasn’t?) it’ll come as no surprise that there are some pretty X-rated scenes in Conversations With Friends, but Joe Alwyn has got nothing to worry about as far as GF Taylor’s reaction is concerned.
His co-star Alison has assured Jaylor fans that ‘the sex scenes are all part of the story’, despite the nerves that undoubtedly come with shooting those raunchy takes with the boyfriend of the most famous person in pop music.
Oh, did we mention Taylor was also on set?
Speaking to , Alison – for who this is her first job fresh out of drama school – said the Blank Space hitmaker was ‘totally cool’ with the passionate scenes.
She acknowledges that it was surreal starring opposite Joe, since she used to play Taylor’s songs on guitar growing up, but she ‘understands’ the scenes are ‘part of Joe’s job, all part of the story’, which were shot during a month of filming in Croatia last September.
Taylor and The Favourite actor Joe met at the 2016 Met Gala and have been loved-up ever since.
However, they choose to keep their romance out of the spotlight and are very picky with what they put out into the public domain.
Recently, Joe opened up about his ability to keep his life relatively ‘normal’, despite having a headline-grabbing relationship of five years.
He told : ‘I think because the precedent was set – that our choice is to be private and not feed that side of things – the more you do that, hopefully, the more that intrusiveness or intrigue drops off.’
Although, we beg to differ, since intrigue into his relationship with the Grammy Award winner has only strengthened over time, especially with and on Taylor’s albums.
Elsewhere, Alice spoke about how she ‘learnt a lot’ from filming intimate scenes during Conversations With Friends, crediting specialist intimacy co-ordinators as ‘like magicians’.
‘They give you intimacy garments, like skin-coloured knickers, and you can ask for pads and stuff to protect you and create distance between the other person. It’s approached like a stunt — you are creating an illusion. The director, Lenny Abrahamson, let us be silly. He would say, “Let’s get the giggles out”,’ she shared.
Alice could be on the cusp of overnight fame at just 21 years old, since Normal People was the BBC’s most streamed series of 2020, with 63million views.
Its young leads, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, became Hollywood stars in no time, so who knows what’s around the corner for this cast.
Conversations with Friends premieres on Sunday, May 15 on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
