often provides commentary about on Twitter, but some people thought his latest ‘joke’ took things too far.
During the dramatic episode on Wednesday, Scott Van Der Sluis was left single after Catherine Agbaje decided to bring back Elom Ahlijah-Wilson.
Scott, 22, looked a little upset by the choice and he criticised Catherine, also 22, for not being as real about her feelings as him.
Dami, 27, who finished the show in third place with in 2022, was reacting to the tense moment on Twitter.
He wrote that he would ‘understand’ Scott if was thinking of a racial slur.
‘Nah Scott I understand if you’re n***** with the hard r in your head rn, fml.’
The tweet was not entirely well-received and has now been deleted. He has now issued an apology on the same platform and clarified his intentions.
‘I want to firstly apologise for my insensitivity and clarify the tweet made a couple of days ago had no malicious intent or a direct target,’ he began.
‘It was a poor joke and I can understand how it could come across in many forms.
‘Like the majority, I enjoy the show and give my personal opinions on it but I also appreciate that I have to be mindful coming across in a certain light that is not a reflection of me.
‘Honestly, I love my people and our communities, and that will never change,’ he concluded.
Some people responded to tell Dami that he never needed to apologise, while others thanked him for saying sorry.
‘Fairs for apologising,’ wrote one person. Another added: ‘It was never that deep, Saw that tweet as a joke myself but way to go, bro.’
‘But what part of the “joke” was funny?’ asked one person.
After the backlash yesterday, Dami made another joke saying that he should never let fellow islander Ikenna Ekwonna ‘proofread’ his tweets. Indiyah responded with a meme that read: ‘You should have just sat there and ate your food.’
Dami also shared his opinion on Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde, who stopped their romance after Ella picked Ouzy See to recouple. She now seemingly wants Tyrique back.
‘If Ella wants him back – she’s gon need to grovel, not even graft sorry to say,’ he wrote.
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
