has opened up on the upcoming TV series, and he’s not confident he’ll be invited to take part.

The actor, 33, became a household name as a child alongside and Emma Watson as they led the cast in the Harry Potter film series, based on the by .

As well as the film franchise, Potter has launched spin-off films, a West End play, and a still-thriving, still massive fandom.

It was recently announced that HBO is creating a TV series based on JK’s famous books, with the role made famous by Daniel to be played by a brand new budding actor.

In a new interview, Daniel was asked straight out if he finds it strange that someone else will be playing the boy wizard, more than 20 years after he took it on.

He said he doesn’t find it strange as he ‘always knew the Potter universe is going to keep growing’ – but does find it ‘weird’ to think there’s a little kid out there whose life is about to change.

‘With the TV show that’s been announced, Potter was always going to be something that carries on and on,’ he told.

‘It’s way too big a literary phenomenon to stop with the series of films we did. I kind of always knew these things would be happening,’ he added, comparing it tothe likes of Sherlock Holmes, whose story has been reimagined multiple times and played by countless different actors over the years.

Asked if he thought he could make a cameo in the TV series, Dan admitted readily: ‘I don’t think so, no.’

He explained: ‘From everything I’ve read it’s going to be starting fresh, it would be weird for me to pop in.

‘The weird thought I have though is like, there’s probably an eight-year-old kid out there somewhere whose life is going to change in a couple of years. My brain does go there.’

Dan has branched out since completing his story of the boy wizard in 2011, having appeared on the West End, in horrors, and in bizarre comedies and dramas, from Swiss Army Man to Horns and The Woman In Black.

But to many, he is still the Hogwarts student, and he admits he sometimes avoids certain streets in London so he doesn’t get mobbed by fans.

‘Sometimes I’m accidentally walking around and I find myself outside the Harry Potter shop …and I think “I should take a block out of the way,”‘ he laughed.

Daniel recently became a father for the first time as he welcomed a baby with girlfriend Erin Darke.

The couple have been together for over 10 years, having first met on the set of 2012’s Kill Your Darlings.
