EA has a second remake in development and plans to release it and three other unannounced games in early 2023.
While it didn’t draw too much attention to it, EA’s latest earnings report confirmed that it has another remake in development besides .
It doesn’t specify what it’s a remake of, only that it is scheduled to release in the fourth quarter of EA’s 2023 fiscal year. That covers January to April, so not anytime this year.
It was also listed alongside three other undisclosed games, which EA only describes as a major IP, a partner title, and a sports title. That last one is separate from and, since it’s scheduled for early 2023, is unlikely to be .
Given the Dead Space remake isn’t mentioned anywhere in the report, it could be assumed that that’s what EA is referring to in terms of the remake. Especially since it’s been delayed to early 2023.
However, EA does state that it and the three other unnamed games haven’t been announced yet.
EA has published hundreds of games over the year but very few that seem obvious fodder for a remake, since the majority receive regular sequels that would make that unnecessary.
Dragon Age is one theory, given the success of Mass Effect Legendary Edition and the upcoming new game, while fan favourite Battlefield: Bad Company is also a possibility. Or EA could be planning to bring back something more obscure, such as the original Mirror’s Edge or maybe an older title like Dungeon Keeper.
Whatever the remake is, if it’s releasing within the first several months of 2023 it will likely be unveiled before the end of 2022. Perhaps even during the Summer Game Fest or at an EA Play Live event.
Strangely, makes no mention of any Star Wars games, even though studio Respawn is meant to be working on , including the sequel to .
Considering the Fallen Order sequel is rumoured to be , perhaps that is what EA is referring to as a partner title.
There’s no way to guess what the third game, referred to simply as a ‘major IP’, is but the implication is that it’s an existing franchise that EA already owns, and not a brand new one.
