Denise Van Outen has admitted to telling fibs on her CV and adding things she ‘hadn’t done’ in order to land her dream job on The Big Breakfast.
Oh, remember that sweet time of innocence before the internet, folks?
The television star, 47, started off as a weather girl on the popular morning TV show, before continuing on her extremely successful presenting career.
Writing in her new book A Bit Of Me, the mother-of-one revealed how she was able to cinch her first big role.
She said: ‘When it came to going for jobs, I hadn’t lost my creative streak when it came to asserting my suitability for a particular role.
‘I wasn’t shy about that, sometimes I’d even add things to my CV that I hadn’t done.’
The star also admitted that she used to think about what events she could possibly have been at in order to make up the lie, and says it wouldn’t be possible now with the advent of the internet.
Hate to break it to you, .
She said: ‘Of course, with and the internet, you can’t get away with that sort of thing anymore, but back then I was pretty comfortable bolstering my credentials where necessary.’
Expanding on what it was like to work on the Big Breakfast, she added: ‘What did I know about reading a weather report? Didn’t you have to have the right sort of meteorological knowledge for that?
‘What I did know was that this was a fantastic opportunity,  was doing a big relaunch of the show, and that’s where I came in.’
She confessed to going ‘all out’ in her bid to land the job, and told how she assured the interviewers that she could write her own weather reports after taking a meteorological course.
While the bosses knew she was telling lies, they took a chance on her anyway, as they said that her ‘brazen’ lies showed she was ‘definitely’ the girl for the job.
Denise also revealed how she was originally supposed to read the news in a bikini, but she refused to do so.
The Big Breakfast was a huge hit between 1992 and 2002, with Denise joining the cast in 1996.
She famously quit in 2000, when she discovered he co-host Johnny Vaughan was getting paid more than her to do the same job.
Meanwhile, after she split from Eddie Boxshall.
The actress and dancer, who parted ways from Eddie earlier this year, had enjoyed a highly publicised relationship with the Jamiroquai singer, 52, before breaking up in 2001.Â
She opened up about their past romance in her new autobiography A Bit Of Me, alleging they called off their plans to tie the knot due to ‘conflicting’ jobs at the time.
However, sources suggest the pair are now back in touch.
‘Denise and Jay have been speaking again and it has been good for both of them to have that connection,’ an insider told.
‘Their split was very painful but a lot of water has passed under the bridge.’
