Fans have been left with ‘goosebumps’ after dropped a teaser for upcoming series The Sandman, starring as Morpheus.
The highly-anticipated series follows ’s comic books, starring an incredible cast including as Abel, as , Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, Stephen Fry as Gilbert, and Sanjeev Bhaskar as Cain with , David Thewlis and Patton Oswalt also joining.
Blending myth and fantasy, the , aka the Lord of Dreams, who is part of The Endless, a group of powerful god-like siblings, including Destiny, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium, to name a few.
The story starts when a dark occult society attempt to summon Death, only to summon his younger brother Dream, instead, before following Morpheus as he attempts to fix all the cosmic and human mistakes he created.
If the teaser is anything to go by, the adaptation will be intensely thrilling, as the 10-episode series is described by Netflix as a ‘rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven.’
Beginning the trailer, Morpheus overlooks a barren land and says: ‘I’m the King of Dreams, ruler of the nightmare realm.’
He later chillingly adds: ‘The dreams and nightmares no longer seem to recognize their master. I will remind them.’
Naturally, fans are obsessed, with one writing: ‘The inhuman noises I just made after watching the new Sandman trailer,’ while another penned: ‘I’ve rewatched The Sandman trailer like 10 times in a row.’
A third labelled the look the upcoming series ‘earth-shattering.’
Another penned: ‘The scream I just scrome. Discovering Sandman is what introduced me to graphic novels. I’ve been filled with trepidation about it being translated to the screen, but the goosebumps I got during this trailer suggest it’s going to be all right.’
Jenna will play adventurer Johanna Constantine, an ancestor of occult detective John Constantine, while David has been cast as the villain John Dee, who can manipulate the dreams of mortals. Patton will be lending his voice talents to the character Matthew, a raven.
Good Omens creator Neil, who will also executive produce the star-studded project, said: ‘For the last 33 years, the Sandman characters have breathed and walked around and talked in my head.
‘I’m unbelievably happy that now, finally, they get to step out of my head and into reality. I can’t wait until the people out there get to see what we’ve been seeing as Dream and the rest of them take flesh, and the flesh belongs to some of the finest actors out there.
‘This is astonishing, and I’m so grateful to the actors and to all of The Sandman collaborators — Netflix, Warner Bros., DC, to Allan Heinberg and David Goyer, and the legions of crafters and geniuses on the show — for making the wildest of all my dreams into reality.’
The Sandman is arriving on Netflix on August 5.
