Pop babe has been compared to musical greats like Prince and Sir by fashion powerhouse Donatella Versace after the pair collaborated on new line, and it’s certainly quite the compliment.
The Physical singer has for years in pop music and is a six-time Brit award winner and three-time winner, but Dua is branching out with a, as well as a fashion collaboration with luxury Italian brand Versace.
The La Vacanza collection unleashes the 27-year-old’sand gained Dua high praise from the brand’s face and chief creative officer, herself.
Along with a stunning shoot showing off Dua’s new garms for the brand, Donatella raved to Dazed magazine’s Summer 2023 edition: ‘[Dua] has a great eye, I have worked with some amazing musicians over the years – Prince, , Elton John, Whitney Houston – and they all bring a different perspective to the table and a real understanding of their audience and how to connect with them.
‘Dua is the same.’
Donatella took over Versace in 1997 after the death of her brother and the brand’s founder, Gianni Versace, and is credited with birthing the supermodel phenomenon of the 90s and 00s.
Equally complimentary of the fashion icon, Dua shared how the brand allowed her to dig into Versace’s history – even exploring precious early prints by the late Versace boss.
‘They gave me the opportunity to go into the archive and pull out Gianni’s early prints. We were able to bring [those] back a bit, modernise [them] and create a fun summer collection I feel very proud of,’ she said.
This isn’t the first time Dua has worked with Versace, wearing the brand’s creations on red carpets across the world, making her catwalk debut at a Versace show, and becoming the face of the Fall-Winter 2021 campaign.
La Vacanza will feature over 200 products, designed by the hit maker, including bustier crop tops, skimpy bikinis and a £20k crystal encrusted gown – as well as a spicy reimagining of Versace’s Medusa ‘95 G-string thong.
It appears the La Vacanza collection is more than just a fashion line though, as the creative forces have now become close friends too.
‘It’s one of the very rare occasions where I work with someone and it really is exactly how you envision it. We text a lot, and she had such incredible input,’ Dua gushed.
‘On some of the dresses I would put a metal buckle and she was like, ‘Maybe we should make that buckle pink to modernise it in a different way.’
‘She wants you to feel amazing – and she wants you to be heard.’
