has been hit with a lawsuit against her song, Levitating, it has been claimed.
The 27-year-old originally released the track in 2020, and it quickly soared up the charts, landing in the top five in the UK, Australia and .
However, after producer Bosco Kante claimed that she used his mobile talk box technology on remixes without his permission.
The talk box allows a musician’s vocal vibrations sound like musical instruments – Kante is the co-founder of the ElectroSpit box, a digital version of the device.
In the paperwork, obtained by PA, Kante reportedly claimed that he was contacted about ‘creating and performing a talk box performance’ in connection with Levitating, and Lipa was given permission to use the device on the original recording.
However, he alleged that this didn’t explicitly extend to remixes.
The producer has now alleged that his ElectroSpit talk box was used on a remix featuring DaBaby – which amassed more than 1.6billion plays on Spotify.
It was reportedly also used on The Blessed Madonna remix, which involved Madonna and Missy Elliot.
reports that his lawyers added in the documents: ‘All three remixes sampled and incorporated a greater amount of plaintiff’s work than that used in the original version.
‘Defendants did not seek or receive any authorization or permission to use the composition or sound recording of plaintiff’s work from plaintiff.’
‘Plaintiff made numerous attempts to resolve this matter short of litigation, but such efforts were unsuccessful, due to defendants’ unwillingness to co-operate or accept responsibility for this blatant infringement of plaintiff’s copyrights,’ the court documents say, via PA.
Kante reportedly filed the lawsuit in LA on Monday, alleging that he is entitled to more than $20million.
Lipa is yet to comment publicly on his claims, but this isn’t the first time she has faced legal action over the track.
In June, Artikal Sound System had their complaint dismissed after they alleged that it was a ‘rip off’ of their song, Live Your Life.
She also faced accusations from songwriters L Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer, claiming that she copied two of their songs to create Levitating.
