Techland has already started work on a new game, but it’s nothing to do with Dying Light and is instead a new fantasy IP.
It took a long time to happen, but is finally out and, surprisingly, developer Techland is already talking about its next project. It hasn’t got a name yet, but it’s described as a new IP and an ‘AAA open world action RPG in a fantasy setting’.
‘We want to create a fully next gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fuelled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity’, says CEO Paweł Marchewka.
‘While we cannot share more details about this project now, we’re all truly invested in it and looking forward to showing it to gamers when the time is right.’
Although it’s not specifically stated, the artwork above is presumably from the new game and… yep, that definitely looks like a fantasy game.
The new project is implied be by a different team from Dying Light 2 and the primary reason for the announcement is a recruitment drive at the Polish developer, with a number of new positions .
Techland is keen to emphasise that their previous promise about supporting Dying Light 2 for at least five years still stands, even though the first big chunk of story DLC was recently .
‘Our journey with Dying Light 2 has only just begun as we plan to support this game for at least five years, with its scope and size matching, if not exceeding, what we have provided our community with during post-launch support for its predecessor,’ said Marchewka.
That doesn’t necessary mean there’s going to be another seven year gap between Dying Light 2 and the inevitable sequel though, as lead designer Tymon Smektała has already been talking about a hypothetical Dying Light 3.
‘One thing is that if we’re making Dying Light 3, then I would like the main character to start with bigger and better starting abilities and skills,’ he told in a recent interview.
‘So I think in the third game, if it happens, that the character will start with more powers, more skills, more abilities as his basic skill set.’
