As if Sir ’s already legendary headline slot wasn’t exciting enough, it has now been confirmed that he is bringing on a whole bunch of star guests.
When the Rocket Man icon takes to the Pyramid Stage on Sunday as the final headliner of this year’s , he’s going to have a litany of famous faces join him for his big moment.
There has been chatter for some time over his set, with whispers of being his star guest, but it turns out there will be more than just one.
Sir Elton’s husband David Furnish confirmed the joyous news on Thursday, days before the big moment.
He told Sky News’ Beth Rigby: ‘Four collaborators of his choosing.
‘People, he just thought, “I’d really like to do something with these artists at Glastonbury”. And that’s all I’m going to say.’
Asked who they might be, Furnish said: ‘Sorry. I am sworn to secrecy.’
But he added of Sir Elton’s : ‘This one is very special. It is not just another day in the office.
‘It’s a different set list – it’s a huge outdoor live festival. He’s got four different collaborators joining him on stage at different times, who I won’t name, sorry.
‘So, he’s done a lot of changes. A lot on his plate, so I think he’s anxious. Yeah, but I think good, anxious, healthy anxious.’
Sir Elton previously said his Glasto headline stint would feature a different setlist from and start with a song that he has not played in 10 years.
He is closing the festival after , and it looks like he’s determined to go out with a bang on what is also being billed as his last UK show.
The rumour mill is already rumbling with suggestions of who might be gracing the stage with Sir Elton on Sunday night – as well as Britney (who may actually ), the likes of Dua Lipa, Billy Joel, Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Eminem and Olly Alexander have also been suggested.
Britney and Sir Elton famously collaborated on her big musical comeback with Hold Me Closer last year, and there were high hopes she was a shoe-in to return to pop with a big Glasto moment.
However, if recent posts from the Toxic star are to be believed, she’s actually nowhere near Worthy Farm right now.
Otherwise, Sir Elton collaborated with Dua on Cold Heart (Pnau Remix) in 2021, so she’d make a lot of sense, and Billy has also performed with Sir Elton plenty of times over the years as a fellow pianist, even going on a series of tours together in 1994.
Former One Direction star Harry has expressed how he looks up to ‘showmen’ such as Sir Elton, Prince, David Bowie, Elvis and Freddie Mercury, and Sir Elton is also keen to work with Harry… who also has a suspicious gap in his touring schedule this weekend.
And Lady Gaga featured Sir Elton on her sixth album Chromatica in 2020, and she also co-hosted his Oscar watch party… so, there’s a strong chance there, too.
Time will tell who will be joining the superstar this Sunday but we’re certain that whoever it is, it’s going to be a real treat.
Glastonbury runs until Sunday, June 25, and will be
David Furnish on the Beth Rigby Interviews… show, 9pm Thursday June 22 on Sky News, or catch up with the Beth Rigby Interviews… podcast.
