A mortified man desperately seeks help from Dr Tosin Ajayi-Sotubo to cure his pus-filled ear in tonight’s episode of Embarrassing Bodies.
Ethan admits he’s become socially anxious as a result of his infected ear, which he’s been dealing with for a painful seven years.
In a clip shared exclusively with Metro.co.uk ahead of the instalment, he reveals he’s constantly cleaning away the leakage and it’s also impacted his hearing.
‘I’ve almost got OCD now because I’m generally a really hygienic person and I take care of myself,’ he says.
‘Pus comes out of my ear throughout the day, really. I have something in the ear to stop the ear leaking or I’m pretty much cleaning the ear all day. People point out that my ear is leaking a little bit.’
Ethan shows Dr Tosin some photographs of his ear, to which she observes there’s ‘almost like a reservoir of fluid’ oozing from it.
On top of the embarrassing condition, Ethan also reveals that the liquid also has an unpleasant aroma ‘like a very foul-smelling infection’ and this has also led to further anxiety.
‘If I can smell it, can somebody else?’ he asks.
Luckily, Dr Tosin is on hand to help and wastes no time in taking a look at Ethan’s ear.
‘I can see there’s a lot of discharge on there,’ she says upon her first examination. ‘And I can already see that the discharge is starting to leak from your ear.’
She also confirms Ethan’s worries about the ‘offensive’ smell.
Eventually, Dr Tosin diagnoses Ethan with cholesteatoma, a build-up of dead skin cells deep inside the ear.
‘It can cause hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, and actually, if it’s left for even longer it can possibly cause some really serious complications,’ she says.
Elsewhere in tonight’s episode, Dr Jane meets a woman whose rare condition causes her vagina to split with painful cuts when she tries to have sex.
Meanwhile, Dr Anand advises a patient who can’t play with her child due to the amount of excess skin she has after weight loss.
Plus, comedian and Instagram star David Whitely hosts an Embarrassing Bodies STI campaign in his hometown of Birmingham to encourage young people to get themselves tested.
Embarrassing Bodies airs tonight at 9pm on E4.
