Eric Clapton, 76, cancels shows due to falling sick with Covid-19 after calling vaccines ‘mass hypnosis’

has postponed two gigs in Europe after falling sick with Covid-19.

The Tears In Heaven singer, 76, in Zurich and Milan, due to take place on May 20 and 21 respectively, as he is ‘suffering’ with the virus.

Clapton – who previously described as’ – is expected to reschedule the shows for later in the year.

The singer’s team made the announcement this week while admitting it was ‘very frustrating’ Clapton had caught Covid.

‘Eric Clapton is unfortunately suffering from Covid having tested positive shortly after the second concert at the Royal Albert Hall,’ they wrote in a statement.

‘He has been told by his medical advisors that if he were to resume traveling and performing too soon, it could substantially delay his full recovery.’

The statement, posted to Facebook, went on: ‘Eric is also anxious to avoid passing on any infection to any of his band, crew, Promoters, their staff and of course the fans.’

They added that it was ‘very frustrating’ that the musician avoided Covid during lockdown and when there were travel restrictions in place, writing that ‘Eric should have succumbed to Covid at this point in time.’

His team added that they ‘very much hope he will be sufficiently recovered by the end of the week to be able to perform the remainder of the planned performances.’

Layla singer Clapton made repeated statements about his anti-vaccine mandates stance throughout the pandemic, and admitted he has lost friends over his views.

In an interview in January, he claimed vaccines were ‘mass formation hypnosis’ and he began seeing signs proving this ‘everywhere’, including ‘subliminal advertising’.

The guitar legend is anti-lockdown and had pledged not to perform at gigs where proof of immunisation against coronavirus is required to attend, however .

He had also teamed up with Van MorrisonStand And Deliver, released in 2020, and admitted his friends and family thought he was a ‘crackpot’.

The song hit out at the Government over the reaction to the coronavirus pandemic and included the lyrics ‘Do you wanna be a free man/ Or do you wanna be a slave?/ Do you wanna wear these chains/ Until you’re lying in the grave?’

Clapton himself is vaccinated, but say she suffered from ‘severe’ side effects which lasted for 10 days.
