Early life
Odenkirk was reared in Naperville after being born in Berwyn, Illinois. He is one of seven children born to Barbara Mary (née Baier) Odenkirk and Walter Henry Odenkirk, both Catholics with German and Irish ancestry. Walter Henry Odenkirk worked in the printing industry. Because of Walter’s drinking, which contributed to his parents’ divorce, Bob decided to abstain from alcohol as much as he could. He calls his father “fucked-up, distant, and not around.” [8] Odenkirk later claimed to have grown up “When I was 15 years old, I hated Naperville because it “felt like a dead end, like Nowheresville. I was eager to go to a city and be near individuals who were engaged in intriguing activities.” In 1986, bone cancer took the life of Walter Odenkirk. Odenkirk attended Naperville North High School and graduated at the age of 16; he claimed to be “weary of high school” and was permitted to leave while still a junior since he had earned enough credits.
