Sam Ryder has received all the love from past Eurovision contestants James Newman and Cheryl Baker after his incredible success during last night’s finale.
Representing the UK, the Space Man singer was the huge curveball at this year’s Eurovision Grand Final when he . However, he just missed out on the winning title after being trumped by ’s rap group Kalush Orchestra.Â
It was a drastically huge improvement on last year’s performance from the UK, after James received zero points in 2021 with his song Embers.Â
Still, he has proved to be a good sport and cheered Sam on, tweeting: ‘Massive congrats to The legend that is @SamRyderMusic that was amazing!’
James had earlier wrote in an Instagram post: ‘Wishing my mate @samhairwolfryder all the luck in the world tonight for his @eurovision performance!
‘He’s an all round lovely man and so talented! Friends around the world here’s how to vote for him, if you feel that way inclined, we would really appreciate the love. Congrats to the legends that are @maxwolfganguk and @wadge1975 for writing the song with him! Letssss gooooooo! #teamspaceman @bbceurovision xx.’
Bucks Fizz singer Cheryl – who represented the UK at Eurovision in 1981 and won – also tweeted: ‘Wasn’t this the best @Eurovision for years? Not just because the brilliant @SamRyderMusic came 2nd, but it was a show of love, joy, inclusivity and no animosity.
‘If only the world acted like the #ESC. It would be a kinder, happier, safer place.’
Bucks Fizz claimed victory at Eurovision 41 years ago with their tune Making Your Mind Up.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson was also blown away by Sam’s achievement, as well as Ukraine’s win, and said in a statement via Twitter: ‘Congratulations to Ukraine for winning the @Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
‘It is a clear reflection of not just your talent, but of the unwavering support for your fight for freedom.
‘Incredibly proud of @SamRyderMusic and how he brilliantly represented the UK tonight.’
