Imagine paying loads of and then the headliner doesn’t even play?
Well that’s what happened to disgruntled festival-goers this weekend, according to Australian outlets and users.
Shaggy, 55, was due to play at a reggae festival in Brisbane on Saturday but delays earlier in the day meant he missed the 10pm curfew and didn’t even get to play It Wasn’t Me.
Tickets were said to have cost over AU$200, the equivalent to over £100.
Jammin Festival’s the Riverstage, which is run by Brisbane City Council, only welcomed the penultimate act at 9.20pm, leaving no room for headliner Shaggy to perform his set before the cut off point.
Sean Paul was headlining on the Sunday, but Saturday attendees were – let’s just say – miffed.
Attendees took to social media after the event to voice their criticisms of how the festival went.
‘Whoever decided last minute to not go to Jammin Australia you dodged a bullet.. S**t show,’ said Louis Reed.
Reddit user adveturer321 wrote: ‘Shaggy was headliner but they seemed to be very slow at changing the stage between acts.
‘The second last act came on over an hr late.
‘Complained her set was cut short and then the MC announced they were over council time limit so shaggy wouldn’t play.’
‘Total ripoff,’ began user Bartcat02, ‘can’t blame venue – blame organisers – should have known when they charged he VIP cost for GA tickets and all Ticketmaster said if that organisers reserve the right to change cost due to demand – and then no Shaggy.’
Shaggy – real name Orville Richard Burrell – is famous for his classic hits including It Wasn’t Me, Boombastic, In The Summertime, Oh Carolina, and Angel.
Unfortunately for Australian fans, Shaggy’s next performances are all the way over in Canada on February 15, before he heads to Long Beach the day after, and to Arizona on March 8.
Of performing, Shaggy previously said his purpose is to ‘bring joy to as many people as [he] can.’
Shaggy previously explained how he got his nickname and revealed he hated it as a kid.
‘I used to hate being called Shaggy. I grew up in the ghettos of Rae Town in Kingston. I was this skinny guy with really shaggy hair,’ he told.
‘I remember when I first came to England, I was in this cab and my song Oh Carolina came on the radio.
‘The cab driver went, “I can’t believe they’re playing a bloke called Shaggy on Radio 1.” I was like, “What’s wrong with Shaggy?”
‘Then Austin Powers came out and the whole world knew what ‘sh*g’ meant. I was like, “Dude! I’ve got the coolest name in the business.”’
