League is set to return after 18 years, with new hosts and Elis James leading the reboot.
The comedians will be fronting the new version of ’s original show, which ran from 1994 to 2004.
The programme was inspired by the Fantasy Football phenomenon which ran through the 1990s, as episodes saw guest celebrities competing against one another as ‘managers’ of their very own fantasy football dream teams.
Speaking about the new 16-episode series, star Matt said: ‘I loved watching Fantasy Football League with Frank, David and Statto and am chuffed to bits to be a part of this new incarnation.
‘I now make a living eating cake and watching football. I must be the luckiest man in the world.
‘I also get to share the sofa with Elis, who is not only hilarious but the biggest football geek I’ve ever met. See you next season.’
Welsh comedian Elis added it is a ‘dream come true’ to be co-hosting the programme.
He said: ‘I couldn’t be more delighted to be bringing back Fantasy Football League, although Matt’s obsession means writing meetings are often derailed by long, wistful chats about Ray Parlour.
‘To be presenting a show I used to tape off the telly is a dream come true.
‘The ambition is to make a show that’s as loved as the original, and fill it with references to without making it unwatchable.’
Guests of the original show included the likes of Game of Thrones actor Sean Bean (a Sheffield United fan), Karren Brady, Ant & Dec and TV presenter Dani Behr (who once dated Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs).
Angus Loughran also appeared as the show’s resident statistician, known as Statto, wearing a dressing gown and pyjamas in the set that was decorated to look like a homely living room, while providing the guests with facts and figures about their teams.
Fantasy Football League will return this autumn on Sky Max and NOW.
