Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star Edie McClurg’s family have voiced their fears that she has become a victim of elder abuse.
The 76-year-old currently lives in LA and suffers from dementia, with her loved ones filing court documents alleging that she had been abused by a man who reportedly claimed to be a ‘long time’ friend.
According to the documents, which have been obtained by the, Michael L Ramos allegedly moved into her home in 2017.
He is reportedly unemployed and did not pay rent or expenses, and is said to have ‘finagled’ his way into the life and home of the actress – who starred as secretary Grace in the cult classic.
Ramos allegedly attempted to take McClurg out of California in order to marry her, despite knowing she ‘lacked capacity’.
The star, who also appeared in Life With Louie, Hannah Montana and Harper Valley PTA, is currently under a conservatorship and has been since 2019.
The judge of the conservatorship allowed Ramos to live with McClurg for ‘companionship’ but reportedly stipulated that he ‘may not enter into a valid marriage’ with her.
It has been claimed that the lawyer for the court order has requested that he is removed altogether.
Angelique Cabral filed paperwork in the Superior Court of California on Monday on behalf of the actress, reports.
‘Mr Ramos claims to be the conservatee’s “longtime friend” and was able to ingratiate himself into the conservatee’s life while she was battling dementia,’ Cabral stated in the documents.
‘He later attempted to remove the conservatee from the state of CA in order to marry her when he knew she lacked capacity.’
She insisted that the pair have ‘have never been romantically involved’, but accused Ramos of sexually assaulting McClurg’s caregiver in her home ‘on more than one occasion’ – with a police report filed over an alleged incident.
Cabral requested that he ‘immediately moves out’ of the property and not come back.
‘The court allowed Mr. Ramos to remain in the conservatee’s residence because it believed he would provide her with companionship and the conservatee did not object at the time,’ the paperwork read.
‘Mr Ramos and the conservatee have never been involved in a romantic relationship (they have separate living quarters) and caregivers are in the home 24/7.’
A notice against Ramos was granted for an elder or dependent adult in need of protection, with a hearing set to take place on August 25.
