Some classics have , while audiences laud them as comfort watches and family favourites they hold dear.
Meanwhile, some critically acclaimed flicks didn’t get a standing ovation from audiences despite being certified fresh.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi – 91%
Marking the second instalment in the sequel trilogy, sees Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) solitude end when he is sought out by Rey (Daisy Ridley) who wants to learn the ways of the Jedi forces.
Following its release in 2017, it garnered an impressive critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes of 91%, with the consensus being that it ‘honours the saga’s rich legacy while adding some surprising twists — and delivering all the emotion-rich action fans could hope for.’
However, audiences disagree by almost 50%, rating it rotten at 42%.

Leave the World Behind – 75%
Sam Esmail’s was one of Netflix’s top watches at the time of its release, and critics adored it giving it a 75% rating.
Audiences were less drawn to the apocalyptic thriller, giving it just 35% and saying ‘After a pretty strong start, Leave the World Behind loses its way, fumbling an interesting premise with unlikable characters, unbelievable dialogue, and a disappointing ending.’
It follows Amanda (Julia Roberts) and Clay (Ethan Hawke) as they embark on a family getaway with their teenage children Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie). However soon after they leave New York for Long Island, when a cyberattack prompts a blackout.

It Comes At Night – 88%
Horror often proves divisive when it comes to critics and audiences, and an example of this is A24’s It Comes At Night, directed by Trey Edward Shults.
Critics loved the apocalyptic thriller, which sees Paul (Joel Edgerton), Sarah (Carmen Ejogo), and their teenage son Travis (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) locked away in their remote home as a disease overruns the planet.
With a rating of 44% though, audiences were less enthralled by the ‘effective use of bare-bones trappings’ which won over reviewers at 88%.

Ad Astra – 83%
Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and Ruth Negga appeared in 2019 sci-fi hit which follows the story of astronaut Roy McBride (Pitt) as he undertakes a dangerous mission across the solar system to uncover the truth about his missing father and a series of strange power surges.
Audiences rated the James Gray film at just 40%, whereas the critics rating sits at 83%.
Their consensus is: ‘Ad Astra takes a visually thrilling journey through the vast reaches of space while charting an ambitious course for the heart of the bond between parent and child.’

No One Will Save You – 81%
No One Will Save You proved a hit with Disney Plus users, with many branding it the best sci-fi film of 2023.
Rotten Tomatoes audience members weren’t so convinced, with the film receiving a 56% rating as opposed to the critics’ 81%
The otherworldly horror focuses on Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever), a recluse who appears ostracised from her community as she struggles with the loss of her mother, Sarah, and best friend, Maude. Her simple life is soon thrown into chaos when her home is invaded by extraterrestrial beings as she fights for survival in a place she should feel safest of all.

Ghostbusters (2016) – 74%
The sequels to the iconic 1984 hit were always going to be controversial, and the 2016 female remake was among viewers.
Starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, the Paul Feig film follows a group of paranormal enthusiasts who set out to hunt ghosts when they realise someone is using the undead to bring the end of the world.
And while critics rated the film at 74%, audiences believe it deserved just 49%.

Sausage Party – 82%
Kristen Wiig appears on this list once again as she stars alongside Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Michael Cera in the 2016 comedy .
The animated flick follows a sentient group of fast food as they discover a horrifying secret about life outside the supermarket and quickly devise a plan to escape.
Audiences only gave ‘offensive’ the film a 50% rating, while critics loved the flick and certified it fresh with a score of 82%.

The Green Knight – 89%
Before his success in , Barry Keoghan appeared with Dev Patel, Joel Edgerton, and Alicia Vikander in .
The 2021 film, directed by David Lowery, tells the story of Sir Gawain (Patel), King Arthur’s nephew, as he sets out to defeat the Green Knight, a giant, after accepting his challenge.
Critics may have given the fantasy flick an 89% score, but audiences settled on 50%, saying: ‘For better and for worse, the beautifully filmed Green Knight is a different take on a classic story that takes its time in the telling and leaves a lot open to interpretation.’

The Lost Daughter – 94%
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s feature directorial debut ripped out the hearts of many, giving it a critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes of 94%.
Audiences, however, branded it ‘dull’ and ‘difficult to follow’ as it garnered a rating of just 55%.
Starring Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, and Paul Mescal, the 2021 film follows college professor Leda (Colman) who is forced to confront her unsettling past after meeting Nina (Johnson) and her young daughter Elena while on vacation in Italy.
