The former bricklayer, 23, won the popular reality phenomenon with his back in 2021 and made his television debut at 21, himself.

Commenting on the debate that was sparked among the public after Amber Wise, 19, appeared as a bombshell on the current series, the star explained that he felt there was nothing ‘wrong legally’ with how the fixture operated its casting.

After viewers watched Amber shed tears over her tumultuous beginnings with , 22, they asked of recruiters, with some claiming it should be higher.

‘It depends on how you look at it. It’s nothing wrong legally. So why should there be anything wrong if it’s not wrong legally?’, according to Liam.

The Welshman continued exclusively sharing with Metro.co.uk: ‘Well the legal age to have sex [in England and Wales] is 16 and then you can go on the show at 18 – I’m not saying she should have sex on there – but you know, she’s above age to be on this show so she’s not doing anything wrong.

‘If a guy on the outside was 25 and he went with a 19-year-old, I think some people might have something to say, some people won’t.

‘But obviously the fact is, it’s on a TV show, all eyes are on it. People are just looking for something to criticise.’

He went on to share his own thoughts on the : ‘I think Sammy was coupled up with Amber and Sammy’s only like 22. It’s not much age difference.

‘It’s not wrong, but you know, it is whether they want younger people on the show or an older demographic on the show.

‘I think it’s always fun to have the older people on – I was only 21 when I was on the show, so I was young as well – but it’s nice when you’ve got a bit older, they’re a bit more mature. They know what they want…’

Amber wasn’t the first young islander to seek love on the show – last year’s contestant – daughter of Michael Owen – was also 19 when she entered the villa.

The pair of footballers’ offspring weren’t the youngest stars the show has ever made however, as Amelia Peters was 18 when she was on the line-up for juggernaut’s third season.
