Matthew McConaughey has revealed that his iconic stint in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days came about thanks to a fortune teller.

The 2003 flick, also starring Kate Hudson and Kathryn Hahn, of all time, thanks to an epic plot and the chemistry between the two leads.

It focused on columnist Andie Anderson (Kate) who pitched an article on being able to date and drive away a man in 10 days, picking unsuspecting Benjamin Barry (Matthew) as her mark.

Unfortunately, her new beau threw a spanner in the works as he had bet his colleagues that he was able to make her fall in love with him in the same amount of time.

Chaos inevitably ensued as the couple tried their best to come out on top, leading to a dying ‘love fern’, and a terrible rendition of You’re So Vain.

However, speaking on the 20-year anniversary of the flick, Matthew confessed that he was conflicted over taking the role – until a chance encounter with a ‘guru’.

Matthew said: ‘I remember considering whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Boulevard when suddenly, this guy comes up out of nowhere to me—he was a fortune teller guru [and] goes, “Can I tell you your fortune real quick?” I was like, “Yeah, man. Sure.”

‘He immediately goes, “There’s a movie you’re considering right now. It’s a romantic comedy. You have to do this or it will be one of the biggest regrets of your life. It is going to be a blast, it is going to be an incredible experience and it is going to make a bunch of money.”
