The 84-year-old was playing Roderick Usher, a man who fears his twin sister has been buried alive after she dies from an illness.
Netflix’s eight-episode limited series is based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, but Langella has now been replaced by Bruce Greenwood.
Greenwood, 65, is a Canadian actor and producer who is best known for playing American president John F. Kennedy in Thirteen Days.
The veteran actor has also starred as Pike in Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, and featured in I, Robot and Mad Men, to name a few.
The streaming giant confirmed the recasting to E!, with the series already halfway through its production.
Any scenes originally starring Langella will be reshot.
Langella was reportedly fired from the project on April 14, a day after the conclusion of an investigation into sexual misconduct.
According to , the investigation determined that Langella had been involved in ‘unacceptable conduct on set.’
Detailing some of the alleged incidents that resulted in an investigation, a source told that Langella is accused of telling a joke which had sexual overtones, and touching the leg of a female actress during a scripted performance before joking, ‘Did you like that?’
Police also told the outlet that no reports have been filed in connection to the actor and Netflix refused to comment on ‘active employment matters.’
The Fall Of The House Of Usher is described as ‘an epic tale of greed, horror, and tragedy,’ with the series coming from creatives Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy.
Flanagan – famous for the likes of The Haunting Of Hill House, The Haunting Of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass – shares a close bond with Greenwood, and shared a tweet to celebrate his casting.
‘I’m elated to welcome my dear friend, the brilliant Bruce Greenwood to The Fall of the House of Usher as the iconic Roderick Usher,’ he began.
‘This will be our 4th collaboration (because yes, I absolutely count the background ghost cameo in Hill House).’
Greenwood will star alongside Mark Hamill, Carla Gugino, Zach Gilford and Mary McDonnell in the show.
