Rick Astley and Blossoms got the crowd feeling all the emotions as they took to the Woodsies Stage for a surprise set.

Even if they were almost half an hour late.

The Never Gonna Give You Up icon and pop band joined forces for a very special tribute to the iconic Manchester band The Smiths.

In an unlikely pairing, they delighted the crowd with tunes such as the 1983 hit, This Charming Man.

Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden told the crowd: ‘Since it’s London, we thought, why not do something special?

‘So, we’re going to do some songs by one of our favourite bands with a friend of ours. Welcome our friend, Rick Astley.’

The singer continued: ‘Do you want to tell them what band it is, Richard?’

‘The Smiths,’ Rick replied, earning wild applause.

Although, their secret set (which was confirmed by the band on Twitter a couple of hours earlier) didn’t go without a hitch.

Fans were left waiting for 25 minutes, reportedly due to previous performers The Murder Capital being 20 minutes late because of technical difficulties.

As a result, all sets on the Woodsies Stage – including Eurovision winners Maneskin – will have their slots pushed back.

‘Is the whole Rick Astley and Blossoms thing a big joke? They’re almost half an hour late’, one person tweeted ahead of their set.

‘rick astley and blossoms 15 minutes late man, come onnn’, another wrote.

Another added that they were ‘fuming’.

But, their set went down a treat in the end, with fans comparing Rick to Morrissey himself.

‘Spent too many years loving the Smiths, but given what Morrissey has shown himself to be, and on tonight’s evidence, they need to reform with Rick Astley as the front man’, one person tweeted, with what can surely be described as the highest compliment.

‘god rick astley is so much better and cooler than morrissey in literally every way’, another praised.

Others were left in tears, simply overcome with emotion in the moment.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk‘s reporter Rachael O’Connor, festivalgoers Sarah, Nicki, and James explained how they felt.

Sarah said it was the best gig of her life and that Rick is the loveliest man at Glastonbury.

Meanwhile, James was openly crying and described himself as broken – the only word he could bring himself to speak after an incredible and emotional set.
