Thousands of people still haven’t left the grounds of Worthy Farm, but we’re already looking forward to 2024.
Sir ’s farewell track, an incredible rendition of Rocket Man, only left festivalgoers hungry for more.
Well good news, because we have an update on what to expect already.
Glastonbury staple Fisherman’s Friends have performed at the legendary festival , including once on the Pyramid stage.
The Cornish group perhaps don’t perform the usual tracks you’d expect to see at a major festival, as a committed acappella group most associated with sea shanties.
But Fisherman’s Friends are a highlight of many people’s Glastonbury trips: the festival loves them – and they love Glastonbury.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, members John Lethbridge, Jason Nicholas, John McDonnell, Jon Cleave, Jeremy Brown and Toby Lobb admit that despite being regulars at Glastonbury, it ‘always freaks us out.’
The band come for the entire festival, taking in the sights and sounds, and pay tribute to the incredibly friendly people they meet ‘from the start, right as you’re welcomed through the gates’- and the fans who excitedly begin singing at them when they recognise them.
We speak on a Saturday, when the group are shortly set to take to the stage at Avalon stage, while Guns N’ Roses are preparing to headline the festival at Pyramid.
Each of them eagerly agrees they’d love to hear a Guns N’ Roses track as a Sea Shanty, with Welcome to the Jungle thrown out as one that will ‘work well.’
And John promises: ‘You’ll hear it next year.’
Fisherman’s Friends have a special gig on Saturday, as usually they perform just with their own voices, but on this occasion used instruments including guitar and bass to give it an extra kick.
The band has a fantastic relationship with the fans both at Glastonbury and beyond, and recall the incredible moment they played the Pyramid stage in 2011, when an audience member ‘buggered off’ with their flag – before returning it the following week.
Another time, they were mid-performance when the venue suffered a power cut and they were forced off stage.
But instead of stopping the show, they walked into the crowd and sang among the audience.
John, Jon, Jason, Jeremy, John and Toby are set to meet fans once again with a major upcoming show in London’s Royal Albert Hall – another iconic venue, and one very different to Glastonbury.
Speaking about the show on October 8, Toby said they’re hoping to ‘see as many people in London as we can.’
